When interviewing a job candidate for their technical skills in Excel, most interviewers ask, “Can you do a VLOOKUP?” One more skill set they should be asking for is, “Do you know how to do nested logic?” With these skill sets, an analyst can do amazing things with Excel.
This course will go over examples of each of these skill sets and introduce you to spinner buttons.
Spinner buttons are rarely utilized but are very easy to set up and use, particularly when you want to see immediate changes in your spreadsheet when changing variables. Even if you are not building these analyses, you should know of these capabilities in Excel.
Recall various examples of nested logic
Identify how to use and build a spinner button
Determine how to perform functions beyond a VLOOKUP

"I thought the webinar was fantastic. I had no idea you could do so many features with Excel prior to taking Jim's class. I actually purchased the ExcelCEO course as a result of this class as I would love to learn more of these techniques and enhance my skills. I use Excel daily, consider myself an advance user and have a lot of knowledge in it, but mostly self taught. I am proficient in formulas like nested if statements, sums if's, etc. I learned tricks, like F4 function, that will help me save time as I am always typing in the $ for absolute formulas that I use on a regular basis. I never knew there was a short cut. I never knew about spinner buttons that could a helpful tool. Even if you know Excel well, I think this class can help you learn so many alternate ways of doing things, even simple things like the format painter trick, that will make Excel easier to use and tricks to save time. I really liked how Jim started simple at the beginning and built upon each step. By doing that I learned short cuts to things I do every day and never knew there was an easier way. I am excited to receive my book & start the classes. Thanks Jim & CPA Academy for a this great class! I highly recommend it."Christopher Moody (Bridgeland Accounting)
"I've worked with Excel since it first came out. And I learned three new things in today's webinar. And they were really cool things. Expertly presented by a fellow Texan with humor and a high degree of expertise. You might ask if staying awake for 1 1/2 hours going over the excel formula was difficult. I would say not even close. It was very interesting and entertaining. Yes - entertaining. One example: Jim created a complicated formula to solve a list problem (i.e., splitting out first and last names from a single column where the first/last name were combined). But the individual simple formulas were done first, step by step. Then the final complicated formula was constructed from those individual simple formulas. The complicated formula still looked complicated, but it was easier to see what it did - it made a lot of sense. There are other examples and those 3 cool things I learned as well. It was a pleasure to see a CEO (Chief Excel Officer) who is a MASTER of Excel, show us some things, and clearly had fun doing it. Y'all should take the course. It is worth the time, and you'll be glad you did."Jenny Hemby (Self-Employed)
"CRAZY GOOD & INTERESTING!! I have been taking CPE courses through CPAacademy.org for over 3 years now & this is the first excel or even software/computer course I've taken & actually learned something rather than being lost at some point during the webinar. I learned a few things actually including a couple of pretty basic skills & a couple of more advanced skills so that was quite refreshing. In the 15 or so years, I've been required to take continuing education every year, this is the first time I've ever purchased additional CPE from the presenter because I often find it difficult to learn excel or other software applications without actually being hands-on which rarely happens in these CPE courses. I am looking forward to delving into this self-study course so I can finally call myself an advanced excel user!"Bella Tamez (Frost Bank)
"This has been by far the best CPE Webinar I have attended! The instructor was very knowledgeable and thorough in explaining the breakdown of the information. I registered for the webinar thinking I was an Excel pro but logged off the webinar with quite a few new tip and tricks I didn't even know existed in Excel and feeling even more driven to dive deeper into exploring the immense seeming endless possibilities of how my company can facilitate current practices through the use of Excel. I would highly recommend this course for anyone who uses Excel regularly in their work, is Excel obsessed like me, or who wants to strengthen their Excel skills for essential and common Excel functions. Outstanding job to the presenter and thank you CPAacademy.org for providing this amazing learning opportunity!"Phyllis Hemmert (Allied Mineral Products)
"I've imbedded formulas before, but it's nice to see the way someone knowledgeable does it. I don't feel so bad that I still find it easiest / cleanest to write parts of formulas first to ensure accuracy before combining them in one. I've used FIND a little, but never tried TRIM, MID, OR PROPER. I'll make extensive use of all of these in the future. I would have been singing the praises of the paintbrush trick, if someone at the office hadn't taught a bunch of us in this just last month. I wonder where he learned it? Spinner isn't something I can use presently, cool as it is. However, I can see it being a beautiful tool for the Budget Dept, planning, etc."Joseph Boyd (BASIC LLC)
"Jim Cline is a Master Excel Guru, but more importantly also a master trainer! it was a thrill to see such an experienced presenter disseminate his knowledge to the other attendees at a tolt! The continuous stream of 'like' hearts flowing up the screen and his spot-on answers to attendee questions was satisfying. Attend the session, you will almost certainly pick something useful up! I am tempted to purchase the Excel 2016 Course just to support and promote his continued good works! ...Jim, next time I make it out to Houston, would love to buy ya lunch and geek out on favorite features and work-arounds! ;)"Lynn Schmidt (Lynco Financial & Tax Services, Inc.)
"Excel Tips & Tricks - Beyond the Basics was one of the best webinars I have attended from CPA Academy. I don't qualify for any CPE for these topics as I am an Enrolled Agent. CPE was not important to me since learning to be more productive during the business day was my primary goal. I am a novice with Excel, however, I learned so many tips today, I will already be a better user of the program. I have already gladly signed up for his course materials. His teaching style was terrific and he explained everything in detail. A great job by all. Thank you CPA Academy. This one is a real gem!"Steven Glodoski (MAHLE Industries Inc)
"Jim's provision of information regarding how to better use the v-lookup function but the little side notes on Format Painter as well as the Spinner Button was awesome. There were just little tidbits that didn't require a lot of time to display but will prove to extremely valuable as my knowledge of Excel increases. In addition, my choosing to be under Jim's tutelage this day was greater as a result of the great price on the 40 hour training class that he offered. I signed up for this and am looking forward to the new skills I will obtain as a result. Thank you, Jim. A++ from me."

Our concept is that anyone can learn the easy things, but the people that have unique skill sets are the ones that will shine. To get such a unique skill set takes work - a lot of work and study. We're not going to tell you that this course is so easy that a six-year-old can do it. We've designed the courses that way to teach phenomenal skills, not just ordinary skills.
